General Information
The Centre
for Women's Studies in Education (CWSE) was established in July 1983
bringing together an existing core of feminist faculty, professional research
staff (research officers) and graduate students involved in the study
of women and education. The specific objectives of the Centre are to advance
the excellence of faculty, researchers and graduate students working in
women's studies through inter- and multi-disciplinary discussion and research;
to enhance the capacity of OISE's Women's Studies in Education focus and
Interdepartmental Specializations to play a leading role in graduate training;
to nurture linkages between OISE's Women's Studies and the wider constituency
of educators concerned with women's issues.
The Centre has worked to achieve these objectives through the establishment
of disciplinary and interdisciplinary feminist research, the implementation
of programs and activities to facilitate the scholarly and professional
development of staff and students, and the promotion of community outreach
between the Centre and a wide range of professional and volunteer women's
organizations. Since 1996 CWSE has become an internal research centre
of OISE/UT.
Students can specialize
in Women's Studies/Feminist Studies through master's and doctoral programs
within the following OISE/UT departments: Adult Education and Counselling
Psychology, Curriculum, Teaching and Learning, Theory and Policy Studies,
and Sociology and Equity Studies in Education.
